Description
Transactional Analysis (TA) is a school of psychology developed by Eric Berne around 40 years ago, and is still going strong.
For the most part it uses down-to-earth terminology, and is a highly effective model in terms of describing how people communicate and respond to each other. It can also provide great insight into why we feel and react in certain ways to certain situations.
Many people see it as having great relevance to the work environment.
A key element of Transactional Analysis the Parent / Adult / Child model. It works like this…
At any one time all of us are behaving, thinking, and feeling in one of three ‘Ego States’.
These represent ‘sub-people’ within us and are represented as Parent (sub-divided into Controlling and Nurturing Parent) Adult (with no sub-divisions) and Child (sub-divided into Free and Adapted Child)
This Mind Map highlights the main attributes and behaviours relating to each of these Ego States.
